    Hunting Grounds Empty Hunting Grounds

Post by Juniper Tue Jul 21, 2015 10:40 pm

Juniper swiftly prances through the trees around her as she noses the air for a scent. She knows these lands are rich with food, but she hasn't quite yet learned where the veins of prey are in the woods. She pauses next to a large mossy tree and sticks her nose high in the air. A faint scent of bear crosses her nose, before a much stronger stench of deer emerges from the stillness. Juniper half-smiles as she climbs down the roots.
She slowly approaches the herd, before pausing to pick a target from the bunch. She sees a juvenile fawn, along with an elder cow and a very young calf. Juniper takes a moment before choosing to test her luck with the juvenile. She lowers her self ever closer to the forest floor before stalking over behind some large tree roots. Her pawsteps slow as she moves closer, preparing to launch herself at the juvenile. The young male raises his head as he looks around, his ears perking at the small sound of Juniper's paws.
The fae jumps at the young buck, tackling him to the ground. The rest of the herd scatter as June breaks the juvenile's neck, leaving it limp underneath her. She is satisfied at her kill as she howls, tilting her head back to the sky. The howl rings loud and clear as she bellows on and on. It seems to merge with the land and bend with the mountains.

All is well with the world. She thinks. Hunting Grounds Mqdefault

Oxymoron slowed down her long stride, pausing to sniff the air. The idea had been to try and find June, but instead, she picked up the smell of the carcass. It proved much easier, and although it didn't smell much like blood, it overwhelmed the definitely not-so-bloody fae. As she raced in it's direction against the wind, her mind drifted. Unlike some other wolves she'd heard of, the parts of her mind that she accessed weren't all that deep. She didn't like thinking with the rest of her brain, it just made everything more complicated, and her life was already too complicated. The howl, which was just starting to trickle off, faded into the back of her mind. Juniper had a nice howl, but still, anything for extended amounts of time was rather bothersome. She spotted the light grey wolf about a half a mile away, and finished the trip at a trot-ish gait. The kill that June had been howling about was a young juvenile buck, It wasn't a huge feat, Oxymoron had known some hunters in Essence to kill full, healthy bulls solo, but still- Pretty impressive for a wolf the size of June. Oxy nodded, showing respect to the Alphess. "Nice catch, Juniper." Her tail swished back and forth. She was tired of rabbit, and as much as she was a little put-off by someone being better than herself at something, she was really glad it was becoming less and less common. She took hold of it's neck, swiveling her ears in the direction of the den grounds. Glancing up at June questioningly, wondering if she was going to need help bringing it back, or just let Oxy handle it. Although Oxy could very easily, spending time with her old pal had become less and less frequent.

The white fae whined slighty, panting. She looked up at the Blue-ish female before nodding a bit and grabbing the fawn's hind legs.  The light grey wolf hardly gt to spend time with Oxy, and she felt useless when she wasn't helping with something. As they reached the den site, June dropped her half and tilted her head at the slightly larger fae. "You know you can call me june, right?" She says, whining in a questionable way. She broke off a chunk of the young male'sflank before handing it to Oxy and laying down with a chunk of her own. She gnawed on it until all that was left was cartilage. "I think we'll have enough food for about a week. You?" She asked, bobbing her head at the carcass. The fae lays her head on her paws and perks her ears as she waits for a response from the blue fae.

Oxy continued to drag the carcass back to the den site, with the help of the young Alphess. As the fae whined, panting in a saddened way, she asked Oxymoron if she knew that her name was still June. The young female wolf glanced at the white friend, expressionless as she thought for a moment. "I'm aware." She answered calmly, neither using the name Juniper or June. She took the food, swishing her tail lightly. She didn't eat it though- Not yet. Later, during night watch, she would eat. At the moment she needed to be on her feet, not weighed down by drowsiness. "I think we'll have enough food for about a week. You?" Oxy scratched at a flea bite. "Maybe... It's not exactly like it's a big pack, and Crisis always eats without the us anyways." Crisis was a wolf who would never have survived in Essence. She appeared to have little respect for duty, and spent time chasing butterfly's and being relatively useless. Although, she was good for the pack in the way of appearance. Oxymoron had to give her that.
